<p>With a new year comes a whole host of brand new and exciting color trends. The pros have spoken, and while opinions might differ, one thing’s for sure: 2021 is going to be a year full of some truly magnificent colors.</p>

<p>If you’re looking for house painting ideas and inspiration, then you’ve come to the right place. In this post, we’ll be rounding up some of Sherwin-Williams’ predictions for the hottest color trends we’ll be seeing in 2021, and how you can incorporate them into your own personal interior design aesthetic.</p>

<p>From minimalist hues to bold and daring hints and pops, there’s something here for everyone. Read on for four beautiful color palettes and plenty of interior house painting inspiration.</p>

<p>Neutral, understated, natural. The&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-collection/color-forecast/2021/sanctuary" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Sanctuary color palette</a>&nbsp;is all about bringing nature inside. Muted tones of grays, clays,&nbsp;earthy greens, and beige make up this inviting color collection.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="1024" height="389" src="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-1024x389.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-4671" srcset="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-1024x389.jpg 1024w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-300x114.jpg 300w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-768x291.jpg 768w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-560x212.jpg 560w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-400x152.jpg 400w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-900x341.jpg 900w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1-791x300.jpg 791w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-sanctuary-hdr-1.jpg 1476w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>1. Sanctuary</strong></h3>

<p>Due to its unassuming and calming nature, this collection could work well in&nbsp;many different rooms. In fact, it would be a perfect pick if you were looking to bring a singular color story throughout your entire home.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="389" src="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-1024x389.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-4672" srcset="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-1024x389.jpg 1024w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-300x114.jpg 300w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-768x291.jpg 768w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-560x212.jpg 560w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-400x152.jpg 400w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-900x341.jpg 900w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr-791x300.jpg 791w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-continuum-hdr.jpg 1476w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>2. Continuum</strong></h3>

<p>A little bit of a departure from the ultra serene colors of the Sanctuary collection,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-collection/color-forecast/2021/continuum" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Continuum is a more bright and playful palette</a>, while still feeling pretty calm, and collected.</p>

<p>The purple, teal, and muted mustard yellow that comprise this collection bring to mind a slightly 1970s vibe. Yet the inspiration behind the collection is decidedly modern. While this palette won’t work in every space, it would be an amazing pop of color for a living or dining room.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img decoding="async" width="1024" height="389" src="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-1024x389.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-4673" srcset="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-1024x389.jpg 1024w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-300x114.jpg 300w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-768x291.jpg 768w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-560x212.jpg 560w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-400x152.jpg 400w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-900x341.jpg 900w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr-791x300.jpg 791w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-encounter-hdr.jpg 1476w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>3. Encounter</strong></h3>

<p><a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-collection/color-forecast/2021/encounter" target="_blank" rel="noreferrer noopener">Encounter</a>&nbsp;brings back to a more natural state of mind. For Sherwin-Williams, the inspiration for this collection was organic matter and ancient times, and that’s very&nbsp;plain to see.</p>

<p>Pale and dusty blues work well with the burnt reds and off-whites of this palette. Again, this color story could work well throughout the home, but it would add a great sense of warmth in particular to a bedroom or living room.</p>

<figure class="wp-block-image size-large"><img loading="lazy" decoding="async" width="1024" height="389" src="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-1024x389.jpg" alt="" class="wp-image-4674" srcset="https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-1024x389.jpg 1024w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-300x114.jpg 300w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-768x291.jpg 768w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-560x212.jpg 560w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-400x152.jpg 400w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-900x341.jpg 900w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr-791x300.jpg 791w, https://paintersforless.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/03/sw-img-cm21-tapestry-hdr.jpg 1476w" sizes="(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px" /></figure>

<h3 class="wp-block-heading"><strong>4. Tapestry</strong></h3>

<p>Definitely the boldest and brightest of Sherwin-Williams’ picks for 2021,&nbsp;<a href="https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-collection/color-forecast/2021/tapestry">Tapestry is without a doubt an instantly impactful palette</a>. Vivid pink combined with varying shades of green and blue&nbsp;are unexpectedly but&nbsp;well tied together with a stark&nbsp;pop of black.</p>

<p>This palette is not for the faint-hearted, though truthfully, it too could work in almost any room. But only in the house of someone with lots of confidence and an eye for design.</p>

<h4 class="wp-block-heading">A few suggestions to create realistic sample&#8217;s</h4>

<ul class="wp-block-list"><li>Make the paint test on a moveable and repositionable surface. Something that can be affixed temporarily to any wall, ceiling, or even floor (when you are painting a floor).&nbsp;<em>Note: do not use your blue tape on the edges of this! Tape the back side only.</em>.</li><li>Make the colored surfaces in proportion to each other, for example: Trim colors will usually be narrower than the wall color surfaces.</li><li>Be sure the surface you paint the test on is primed, or at least under-painted with a color similar to what you’re testing. For example, you can of course use poster board but since it’s paper, it must be oil-primed so it does not warp. Personally I like the flat-finish, fast drying low odor products for this.&nbsp;<em>Note: I’ve typically prepared up to 20 or so poster boards with this type of oil primer, to have ready to go in advance–and easy to use at a moment’s notice–when preparing color tests for clients.</em></li><li>Roll on 2 coats of your finish (test) color, making the application as close to what you intend to do on the final surface. Use a roller with similar pile to what you plan to use on the job.</li><li>Use a stable surface with a texture similar to the wall or surface to be painted. IF the target surface is textured, it’s worth it to make a replica since color reacts so differently with the light falling on textured or smooth surfaces.</li><li>Be sure to do the test with the same finish you’ll be using on the actual surface (Flat? Eggshell? Semi-or-high-gloss?)</li><li>Label your sample cards and cut a nice, smooth-edged one about 8”x8” to leave with the client for their own ‘shopping’ purposes.. I find that people appreciate this especially when they are looking at window treatments and furnishings.</li></ul>
